Life Lately

Hello! Well things are starting to get in a nice little routine around here! Last night Brett slept from 10-3 and then until 6! I woke up at 2 wondering why he had not gotten up to eat and went to make sure he was still breathing! haha! We started putting him in his own room last week....he is such a loud sleeper (grunting and snorting) so the Dr. said it was time. I was a little sad at first but now that we are all sleeping better Im happy!
Brett had his 1 month check up and he now weighs 12lbs 2 oz! That is the 91% for weight! (He likes to eat) He was 22 1/2 in long which is 72% for height! I kinda thought I was feeding him too much since he gained 4 lbs since birth, but he was just hungry....he doesnt eat nearly as much now- going about 3-4 hours between feedings.

I am starting to feel myself again too! I actually feel like I can be productive during the day and actually curled my hair yesterday...just to go grocery shopping haha! I am still losing weight and just started p90x yesterday...and I can barely walk! I still have about 15 lbs to go but my belly is pretty much all gone down....its just still soft... but not for long! :) And Im pretty sure Im carrying around an extra 5 lbs of boob! These things could challenge Pam Anderson any day! (And Im not happy about that)

Our Thanksgiving was great...we had the family over to our house so we didnt have to pack up an entire car load of baby stuff to go away for the day. Josh smoked the turkey and everyone brought over all the fixins! I put Brett in a cute little sweater....but Josh said it looked like something an old man would wear! What do you think?? I think he was precious!

 Laughing a Daddy!

Josh carried him around in this while getting the turkey ready!

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving too! I actually already put up my Christmas decorations and its not even December yet! I told you I was learning to be productive! :)

One Month!

Wow! My baby is 1 month old! Time is flying by and I dont like it! Im already half way through with maternity leave :(
Things are getting into a nice routine around here! Brett eats about every 2-3 hours during the day and about every 3 at nite. Josh and I have a nice little system to allow us both some rest. I get up with Brett at nite and Josh gets up with him at 6am and lets me sleep until 830. This way we both can function during the day haha! Here are the 1 month pics! Its hard to get a 1 month old to sit up straight and look at the camera!

 One Month Survey!

How far along were you when you had your baby? 41 weeks and 1 day.
How long was labor? 14 Hours! 2 hours of pushing
Total weight gain: 47 lbs.
Total weight loss since: 30 lbs! Its amazing how fast it fell off...now the last 17 are going slower :/
Back into your own clothes yet? I refuse to try on pants until my weight is normal. Some shirts fit but my boobs could rival Dolly Parton or Pam Anderson so most things are too small!
Did you get stretch marks? Yes.....some showed up around my belly button AFTER my belly went down. They arent that bad though, and are looking better each week!

Did you deliver vaginally or by c-section? Vaginally. I was so scared about having a c-section but I didnt need it!

Best moment this week: Brett smiles soo much now! Especially when we kiss his mouth! :)

What I miss about being pregnant: Not much!

How big is baby: He was 8 lbs 13 oz 2 weeks ago so Im guessing over 10 now! We go to the Dr. in a few days.

Baby's temperament? Very laid back (like his Daddy!) He is a very content baby and only cries when he has gas or is hungry. I dont know what I did to get right to get such a good baby! :)

What I am looking forward to: Getting more reactions out of Brett, fitting into my clothes, being able to work out again!

The Nicu Story

Im Still here! Now I understand why Mom blogs dwindle the weeks after a baby is born! :)
We have now been home for 3 weeks and Brett is 4 weeks old! It actually feels like its  been a lot longer! I think the 1 week stay in the Nicu really made it drag out! Here is a quick recap of why we were in the Nicu:
Right after Brett was born he was spitting alot and his oxygen levels were dipping so he went to the transition nursery to be watched. They noticed his blood platelets were low and his infection markers were elevated so they decided to treat for infection with antibiotics. It wasn't made clear how long he would be on meds but it was a day by day thing...we knew it wasnt serious but we wanted to take him home!
It was so hard because we did not get to have our baby with us the whole time we were in the hosptial! When he was first taken to Nicu I cried myself to sleep. I was then awoken with a phone call from the Nicu and they said I could be there as much as I wanted and feed him etc. SO, I started spending every minute in the nursery with him. I was never in my room and kept missing my meds because I was with Brett, but I didnt care.
I was supposed to be discharged Monday, but since my baby was still there, I was able to "Nest" in a room for one extra night. This was free of charge and gave us one more day to hope we could take our baby home.
Every morning his platelets and CRP levels were checked. The CRP levels (infection) were going down and this was good! But, the blood platelets had come up but then dipped again, so Brett was given a platelet transfusion. In addition to all this, he still had to be circumcised. But, with low blood platelets, the Dr would not do it...with good reason because platelets are what make your blood clot, and if he were cut and coldnt stop bleeding that would be bad!
The platelets finally came up on Friday and he was Ok'd for his circ! But, the Dr  wanted him to complete a 7 day antibiotic cycle and that would mean one more day! We tried to get the antibiotics at home but the insurance company denied it.
We ended up spending 4 nights at home without our baby. It actually wasnt as bad as I thought because we would come home at 10 at night, go straight to bed and wake up and be back in the hospital by 8 am everyday. I was sure not to miss a single daytime feeding and despite his being supplemented with formula he took to breastfeeding like a champ! This was my main concern with nicu, but luckily it worked out.

So, Brett is a very healthy newborn! He weighed 8.6 when we left the hospital and one week later he weighed 8.13! He is definitely an eater and Im sure will be over 10 lbs next week.
We have been trying to get a good routine down, and have been sort of successful. He eats about every 2 hours during the day and at night has started sleeping 3-4 hours at a time.  But last night he was up every 2 again :/ Oh well, Im sure we will get it worked out. My husband is great and takes Brett after his 6 am feeding and lets me sleep until 8:30. In return Josh sleeps with ear plugs through the night. This way we are both pretty well rested!

Thats all for now, Ill try to be good about blogging more, but sometimes its either blog or take a shower.....just so you know I currently have baby spit up in my hair but decided to forgo the shower to update the blog! :)
I leave you with some newborn pics taken by one of my best friends the talented MrsSouthernBelle.
